Mission Statement

CHATHAM UNITED – MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Chatham United Soccer Association (referred to hereafter as “CUS”) is to provide our club members with a focused opportunity to develop their soccer skills through the creation of a balanced mix of practice and game situations. The Club believes that a successful player develops both individual skills as well as team skills. Consequently, our program incorporates the development of the concepts of good sportsmanship, self-control, leadership, teamwork and team spirit.

 Additional information

CUS requires that all of our adult constituencies (trustees, coaches, parents and trainers) recognize and accept their responsibilities in providing leadership and modeling appropriate behavior for our players.

Club members act as ambassadors of goodwill when traveling outside of our towns for games and club-related activities. The Club understands and accepts that the behavior of our players, coaches and parents reflects upon the reputation of the Chathams, which we seek to uphold to a standard of excellence.

CUS is a not for profit, volunteer based club that has provided an opportunity for participation in New Jersey club soccer for more than 20 years. We serve children between the ages of approximately 8 years old and high school age. The Club’s activities and finances are administered by an elected board of trustees who serve at the pleasure of our voting team representatives. Amongst the board’s responsibilities are the upholding of the Club’s by-laws and the development of policies and procedures that aim to strengthen and promote the Club’s current activities and future direction.

Soccer enjoys a rich tradition of success in the Chathams. It is the Club’s hope that skills and maturity developed and fostered in its program will allow players to achieve success for themselves and their teammates as they progress through soccer programs in high schools and beyond.

The Club recognizes the key role of the boards of recreation and education of the Chathams in allocating and maintaining the field space and associated facilities necessary for CUS to successfully fulfill its mission. At all times we seek to be responsible and trusted partners with these bodies in the development and execution of our program.

Club practice sessions are conducted with the use of qualified, paid trainers who are knowledgeable in all aspects of skill development as well as able teachers of young people. In conjunction with parent managers and coaches, trainers, in some instances, provide on-field leadership during game situations.

CUS is a member of the Morris County Youth Soccer Association and all of our teams currently participate in the Association’s 10 game fall and spring seasons. (Please visit www.MCYSA.org for background and information.)

CUS operates under the supervision and guidance of New Jersey Youth Soccer and endeavors to follow the spirit and substance of its policies and guidelines. (Please visit www.NJYS.org for background and information).
